Rocket Espresso & Other Prosumer Machines (Manual & Semi-Auto Machines)

Machines like Rocket require more hands-on maintenance than a super-auto, but they reward you with better control over your espresso.

🔥 Daily Care:

  • Purge and wipe the steam wand immediately after use—dried milk is a nightmare to clean.
  • Flush the group head by running water through it before and after pulling a shot.
  • Empty and rinse the drip tray at the end of the day.

🛠 Weekly Care:

  • Backflush the machine with plain water to remove coffee oils from the group head.
  • Scrub the shower screen and gasket with a group head brush.
  • Check the steam wand tip for any blockages (poke out clogged holes with a pin).

🔧 Monthly Care:

  • Backflush with detergent (like Cafiza) to deep clean the group head.
  • Remove the shower screen and soak it in warm, soapy water to clear out buildup.
  • Descale (if needed)—but only if your water source is hard. Some prosumer machines, like Rocket, shouldn’t be descaled too often because it can damage internal components.

Every 6-12 Months:

  • Replace group gaskets and shower screens if they’re worn.
  • Deep clean all removable parts (portafilter, steam wand tip, etc.).
  • Service your machine if you notice pressure issues or inconsistent shots.

🚨 Pro Tip: Use soft or filtered water to reduce scale buildup and extend your machine’s life.
